To create a custom field in Salesforce, you will navigate to Setup and then click on Object Manager. From there, you will select the object you'd like to create the custom field on.
Next, select Fields & Relationships and then select New. You will then be instructed to select your field type. Then, select Next.
* The field details will be dependent on the field type. In today's example, we will be creating a text field.
Enter the following information on the field details page:
- Field Label (this is the name of your field)
- Length
- Field Name (this will automatically populate)
If you'd like the field to be required, check the Required checkbox.
Click Next, then set the field-level security. Once complete, click Next. Lastly, add the field to your appropriate page layouts and select Save.
