Description:
This solution describes how to map attributes in a profile

Environment: All

Versions: All

Answer:

Note: The attribute must already exist in the Raiser's Edge.

There are two ways to map attributes in a profile:

For versions 3.3.2.5 and Earlier:

When the attribute category is in the source data file

  1. Map the category for the attribute with Record Type = Attribute - Category. There is no need to map the Value Type, because IOM will look at the data file to find the value type.
  2. Map the description for the attribute with Record Type = Attribute - Description. The Value Type will point to the Category. If the Category is in column A, the Value Type will say "Column A".
  3. The date and comments for the attribute are associated with the attribute description. These are mapped to the field containing the description in the Value Type, for example Value Type = Column B.

When the attribute category is not in the source data file

  1. Map the description for the attribute with Record Type = Attribute - Description. The Value Type will be the Category.
  2. The date and comments for the attribute are associated with the attribute description. These are mapped to the field containing the description in the Value Type, for example Value Type = Column B.

For version 3.4 and Later:

When the attribute category is in the source data file

  1. Map the category for the attribute with Constituent>Attribute>Category.
  2. Map the description for the attribute with Constituent>Attribute>Description>Category (Field C). The piece of this mapping at the end, is referring to the title of the Category field. In this case, since column C is called "Category" you map to "Category (Field C)". If the Category was in column A, the Value Type will say "Category (Field A)".
  3. The date and comments for the attribute are associated with the attribute description. These are mapped to the field containing the description. Since "Description" is Column D, they are mapped to "Description (Field D)

When the attribute category is not in the source data file

  1. Map the description for the attribute with Constituent>Attribute>Description> "Insert Category". After selecting "Description", you will select the specific Category that the Description should be mapped to.
  2. The date and comments for the attribute are associated with the attribute description. These are mapped to the field containing the description. For example, they will be mapped to "Description (Field C)", because the Description is in field C.
