Product: ImportOmatic
Description: Dictionaries allow multiple values from a data file to be translated into a single value within RE during the import process. Dictionaries can be utilized to minimize the amount of manual manipulation that takes place during file preparation. This solution describes how to add a dictionary to ImportOmatic.
Environment: All
Versions: All
Answer:
To Add a Dictionary:
1. On the Dictionaries tab within IOM Configuration, select the "Add" button.
2. A window will appear asking if you would like to pre-populate the dictionary with values from an existing table within RE. (Any user-defined table can be selected from the drop down in this window)
To Build a Pre-populated Dictionary Using RE Table Values:
A. Select a table to pre-populate the dictionary. An example is the Titles table. Once you have located and selected the Titles table, select the Yes button
B. The next window to appear will be the Dictionary itself. The values that are currently existing within the "Titles" table will appear in the "Replacement Values" or left pane of the Dictionary window
C. Locate the Replacement Value in the left pane, select the value by highlighting
D. Enter the value that will be translated from the data file in the Values To Match On pane on the right side of the Dictionary. Select the plus sign or hit enter on the keyboard
Example:
Replacement Value (Desired RE Value): Mr.
Value To Match On (Value From Data File): Mister
This association will allow the value of "Mister" from the data file to be translated to the appropriate format of "Mr." within RE.
To Build a Dictionary from scratch (choosing not to pre-populate):
A. Select the "No" button
B. The next window to appear will be the Dictionary itself. All fields will be blank and need values appointed. The blank fields are as follows, Title, Description, Replacement Values and Values to Match On
C. You will need to associate the Values To Match on with the Replacement Values
D. Create a Title
E. Create a Description (optional)
F. In the Replacement Value pane, enter the desired value that should live within RE
G. Highlight the added Replacement Value, then enter a Value to Match On the pane on the right that needs to be translated from the data file and select the plus sign or hit enter on the keyboard
Example:
Replacement Value (Desired RE Value): Annual Fund
Value To Match On (Value From Data File): A2012
This association will allow the value of "A2012" from the data file to be translated to the appropriate Fund ID of "Annual Fund" within RE.
***Note: Selecting to Delete a Replacement Value will also delete any associated Values to Match On as well.
