Delete a Attribute Record

Is it possible to delete a attribute record using Import-O-Matic ? .

Hi Nanette,

You'll want the attribute description in your data file. Map the attribute using Record Type = Constituent Attribute - Description and Value Type = Monthly Sustainer Club. Then you'll have the option of "Field B" in the value type for the Constituent Attribute - Remove. This will remove the entire attribute (not just the description) from your records.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
Amanda

HI Amanda, I tried this, and it's still not working. ??? Nanette
Hi Nanette,

I'm sorry to hear that it isn't working. In order to properly assist you with this particular issue, I would like to examine the following files: the data file and the IOM profile being used for this import. Please send these files to Support@omaticsoftware.com so that I can better assist you with your issue. When I have a resolution, I will post to this thread.

To send your IOM profile, please follow these steps:

* Go to IOM Configuration
* Highlight the name of the profile you are using
* Right click on it and choose to export
* Send the .xml file that is created
* It will be named in this fashion: IOM_Profile_Export_.xml

Thanks!

Thank you for sending in your files, Nanette. I was a pleasure to speak with you to take a look at removing the attributes.

These attributes included a comment, so we needed to include the comment in the data file and map that as well. Once we added the comment the attribute was removed successfully.

Hi Amanda, I've finally gotten back to this! Today I created a csv file with the fields corresponding to the profile in the post before this one. It had 887 records. I removed the first 3 records to another csv file, to test, before running the large file. It worked fine - all 3 records had the attribute removed. Then I ran the large file, now containing 884 records. Most of them had the attribute removed, but there are 71 records that still have the attribute! Any thoughts? I'm baffled...
Hi Nanette,

I'm going to reopen the support case and will contact you shortly. Once we have a resolution, I'll post to this thread.

Thanks!

I see the feature to delete a constituent attribute, but I am trying to delete an education attribute and I don't see that remove feature, does it exist and I am missing it?

Thanks,

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

At this time, ImportOmatic only has the ability to remove constituent attributes. We do have a popular UserVoice suggestion for removing data that I would recommend you vote on.

Although, you could likely use the IOM API to remove the attribute. If you have a resource that can program in either Microsoft VB.Net or C#
then they would be able to write this for you. If you do not have such a resource, we can provide this customization as a service.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
Amanda

Hi, I'm trying to do this, and not sure I understand exactly what you mean by deleting an Attribute. I have an Attribute Category, Monthly Sustainer Club. The Description field contains one of 4 text values. I don't want to delete the description, I want that entire Attribute gone from the donor's record. In my data file I have 3 rows: 1.REID = Constituent Field, ID; 2.Attribute = Constituent Attribute - Category, Value Type field is disabled; 3. Remove = Constituent Attribute - Remove, Value Type field is blank. My data file has 3 columns: 1. REID, containing Constituent IDs 2. Attribute, containing "Monthly Sustainer Club", 3. Remove, containing "Remove".  But it doesn't work. Thanks for your help!

Hello!

Yes, we've recently added the ability to remove attributes using ImportOmatic.

First you will have the attribute description in your data file. Map that attribute as you normally would if you were importing it. You will also have a column in your data file with a value of Remove. This is mapped to Record Type = Constituent Attribute - Remove and Value Type = associate with the attribute you wish to remove.

Please let me know if you have any questions about mapping attributes!

Hello Amanda;

Thanks for the reply , I'm confused about the value that should go in the remove field , Is it something like (DELETE or REMOVE). I tried the method you told but had no luck.

Thanks

Hi Paul,

Yes, in your data file you will include a column with the attribute you want removed and a column with a value of Remove. Then in your IOM profile you will map the attribute normally as you would if you were importing it to the record, in this example it's in column A. Then you will map the column with Remove as Record Type = Constituent Attribute - Remove and Value Type = Field A.

If you need any additional assistance please attach your data file and IOM profile in an email to support@omaticsoftware.com so that I can better assist.

Thank you!
Amanda
